I'm reading this right now. It covers some pretty interesting topics of language design and implementation. Anyone interested in language and compiler theory should read it.
Word of warning, though: a lot of emphasis is put on the mathematics behind programming language concepts, like how data types are based on sets, and stuff like that. So if you aren't in touch with the mathematician inside you, I'd say skip it.

The only thing I have on that is the NASM manual, and a link for x86 & x86_64 OPs.
Though you could just google for those.
Or do you have something more specific in mind?
Though the most I could figure one would find on the subject is writing for device drivers, embedded systems and maybe scientific calculations.
Otherwise I suggest you get an assembler, find your OP codes and have at it, not much to it.

Learning perl 4 & 5 use the first two chapters for beginner stuff, and then get into more perl specific things like regex.
