Anyone reading I am a hero?

I'm really enjoying it so far, I like the mangaka, I read another of his works called Ressentiment which I thought was pretty good too, I am a hero is better though.

Thoughts?

In C++, how do I equate a string stored as a variable to a string?
For example:
cout << "Are you x? ";
cin >> x;
if ( x == "yes" )
{
return "yay";
}

This throws an error about equating pointers and integers. Probably seems like a basic and stupid question to you, I know, but I'm stupid.

>>
Neckbearded Basement Dweller 12/02/11(Sat)00:54 No. 1896

either use strcmp

if (strcmp(x, "yes") == 0) {/*do the stuff*/}

or use std::string
std::string x;
cin >> x;
if (x == "yes") {/*do the stuff*/}

Thanks. This worked, but I also had to change my "int answer + cout << answer(x)" schema into one "int main".

White Heat Melanchthon 12/03/21(Wed)19:56 No. 18294 Board: /me/ [Reply]

Hey, I just watched White Heat, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and I noticed two things about that seem to be troped. I was hoping a fellow film buff could weigh in:
1. The phrase "on top of the world" - is it eponymous to this film? I'm not sure if it was used prior to this, but googling seems to indicate that it at least became popularized in the film (and reveals no real etymology past a vague reference to Australia).
2. The final scene the phrase is symbolic of shows the complete descent into madness of the criminal protagonist. He finally lets go of reality, and in the process is responsible for massive destruction and his death in a fireball. This formula is used in several popular films, Scareface being the one that springs to my mind readily. From what I can tell, White Heat is the first film to employ this structure.

If anyone can confirm/deny my conclusions, I'd like to know, as I've never seen this film credited for it's contributions to cinema.

Taken from a conversation in the /phi/ boards,:

Is it possible to form a nation, that exists only in the "cloud"?

A nation that is connected only through human relationships, but doesn't actually have "territory" in the traditional sense. Basically a homologous entity that serves to keep itself alive; by ensuring that each and every one of it's constituents is protected from the injustices brought on by other people. A giant team.

Well, technically the native migratory peoples the Europeans wiped out & took the US's land from have been told they have an independent nation with or without land, though that's been nothing short of a series of catastrophes.

I guess ideally, you'd buy somewhere hard to reach, an island somewhere, and invite as many physicists and engineers and scientists to come live there & work on a wicked defense system to prevent the US from just claiming you as an outlying territory. Then you'd have a population of sci-nerds, who are pretty independent, anarchistic folks to begin with, and youd have your truly free small society that'd provide researchers with free reign in exchange for a cut of the resources from countries licensing the tech. From there, you'd need a council deciding which countries to sell what to... essentially running the world. Even better, put it on the moon.

Sorry, where were we...

Dear Hasbro,

So multiple people repeating essentially the same information adds something useful to the discussion? Or is it an indication of lazy people didn't read the thread to see that someone already did it?

I thought it would be helpful to have a thread where we can help each other identify books that we don't remember the title or author of - books we read when we were little that remember characters, plot, little snippets of the story, etc.

TL;DR Post descriptions of books you'd like identified and we can all try to help each other out.

Pic related, because forgetting an awesome book is angrifying.

There's this one I've been trying to figure out lately. It was a 'haunted' house; the house itself was a monster and threatened to eat the protagonist, a young boy. He loved visiting the house but eventually became fearful of it.

There's this one phrase from it that's stuck with me: "Rainy, gray monster February."

Fuck I dunno.

Other than the hair being a little long and the complete lack of a long string of pearls, her biggest problem, literally, is her breasts. Flappers often wrapped their chests to fit into those dresses. A busty flapper is almost a contradiction in terms.
