It's that time again.

As you can see, #Dungeoneers is still up and running and we have finally managed to establish a semblance of a schedule.

We have a wikidot page in progress to keep the games in check. It isn't finished, yet, because most of us are busy (lazy), but it is pretty handy.

You can check it out here:
http://www.dungeoneers.info/

If you wish to play, join the channel and talk to one of the GMs about their respective games. We never turn down willing players.

To join, read 7chan's FAQ about IRC, then add #Dungeoneers in your Favorites.

Do you recall, O muse, you whore, when we sang together of arms and a man?

You whispered through me the lives of heroes, and on my quill the fate of great men and civilisations rested. Observer to my works, I was powerless to sway my own hand.

I rebelled once, for a single sentence. With a few careful scratches I orchestrated Odysseus’s hubris, naming himself before the monstrous son of Poseidon, and in doing so I smote down the lives of his crew and manufactured his sentence for a sin that I had committed.

For my penance, O muse, you whore, my burden was doubled. Not one tome, but another, and this one written on the salvation of the man I had condemned, an Odyssey. I did not rebel, and when I had placed the final mark upon the page you cast me aside and entered the eyes and heart of a new man.

Now that I have been dragged screaming from my slumber to have a third work etched through my hands, I will again change a single line. I ask you this before I rebel again; why have you taken me as your puppet, O muse, you whore, centuries after my death?

Sylver here. I’m going to be starting up a new game in #dungeoneers--a low fantasy campaign set in the Roman Empire during the time of Augustus Caesar, using Savage Worlds Deluxe (for now).

For the most part, it will be standard low fantasy, a world not too different from our own with a few magical and fantastical elements thrown in. Magic is a relatively new phenomenon in Rome, and sightings of Hydra and Hippocampii are only slightly higher than the usual fare (though a bit worryingly higher than usual when spread across the whole continent), so don’t expect to be riding a Centaur rickshaw to the forum or anything.

I'm relatively new to W40K and was looking to get into Tyranids. Does anyone have tips for a new player? I haven't made any purchases yet but this is what my current idea for an army would be starting out at 500 pts.

Tervigon x1
Venomthropesx2
Tyranid Warriorsx3
Hormagauntsx10
Hormagaunts w/Toxin Sacsx10

Thoughts?

Termi's over Hormi's
you can field fleshborer + enhanced senses for cheaper than a horm and will do more damage overall.

counting living ammo a fleshborer is stronger than a bolter

Anonymous 12/05/17(Thu)06:58 No. 28642

Aye termi's all the way, as brutal as hormi's can be they just cost too much to be worth it consideriong how easily they can be reduced to kibbles and bits.

This is an interesting thread, as I have no idea about anything of what you all said. I know W40K is played with miniatures. How much would the stuff OP lists cost around? I guess the points are for a point buy system. Where do toxin sacs come in? Thanks!

Post stories about unique things you've done in a D&D session to solve a puzzle or beat an enemy.

I can't really say I've ever done anything unique. Some things I've heard in the past are, for example:

Some guy, playing a Wizard or something in 3.5, I think, was facing an enemy that was kicking the group's ass. So his solution was to cast Bestow Curse on the enemy. His curse? He caused the enemy to see light as darkness and vice versa.

I was an elf ranger level 1, and my party found a pit of green ooze inside of a kobold lair.
Naturally, I drop kick a kobold into the ooze, and find out that it wasn't acid.
i then took a mighty leap over the pit to stab another koblod in the head.

Our Party:
Halfling-Thief, Dwarven-Barbarian, Gnome-Bard (great start!)

Our quest:
Recover the Magical MacGuffin from a BBEG terrorising a town for our employer (and naturally free the town in the process).

What happened:
We enter town, BBEG turns up (our DM always had the BBEG briefly turn up early to show off his prowess).
Dwarf gets trounced.
Halflings flees among the panicking NPCs.
Gnome tries to treat through song, fail, incurs wrath of all the BBEGs grunts.
BBEG laughs manically.
Halfling appears behind BBEG.
Nat.20 sneaks behind...
Nat.20 pickpocket MacGuffin......

dm is an ass and has us fight a "herd" of tarrasque. oh... btw this party was mentioned earlier in <<22928. dm has given us ANOTHER ring of 3 wishes........................ as we are running for our lives, the gnoll wishes that all of the tarrasques were teleported to Paladin City.
Seeing as we are the only forces of evil and chaos in this plane, we all grin lie idiots as i amend the wish as dm thinks it over.
amended wish: I wish the herd of tarrasque would be teleported to an elevation high enough to reach terminal velocity above Paladin City. party high fives eachother and even dm is laughing at this point.

Band of ghost and human bandits lead by a fetchling sepulchral thief.

Have them stalk and ambush the players, making heavy use of traps, terrain and guerrilla tactics.

You want to scare them?
Make the fetchling a spell-thief/assassin and constantly hound the casters so that they can't rest and you slowly leech their spells away.

Don't be afraid to get creative with alchemy, turning fuse bombs into mines and satchel charges.
If the party has a lycanthrope then mix silver coins into the explosives.

Pesky cleric? Have one with assassin levels phase through the ground, phase upward inside his tent, death attack paralyze him and then have the rest of the bandits assault the camp.

Do they have a ghost touch weapon?
Steal it and nail one of their hirelings to a tree with it, preferably 100ft up.
For bonus points leave it so he's still alive and rig him to be immolated when they approach him, preferably via a tripwire trap.

what system are you using? if D&D throw some evil druids at them... woodland stride and trackless step make them all but invisible in the woods. wildshape into something cute to tag along with the party while using Natural Spell feat to summon nature's ally to fight the party.
undead squirrels.... or Squirid from MMIV my personal favorite. extraplanar shadow squirrels that attack with globes of Darkness that deal temporary ability damage.

Hey all, I'm looking to get into Warhammer 40k, not the miniatures exactly but the fluff and background of the setting. Only problem is I have no idea where to start. I have access to the RPG books (DH, RT, DW, BC and their supplements) but I feel like I'm missing a major part of the setting just going by what is in there.

A friend told me to read the Horus Heresy series, but its a ton of books to read and still ongoing. So I'm wondering if anyone on here has a resource they could point me towards or a good starting point to learning more about WH40k. Thanks.

Also the guys who mentioned the Ciaphas Cain novels are right. Those books are great as long as you don't mind that they aren't all Grim Dark and stuff (its still the grim dark Warhammer setting, but the main character is hilarious, which is incredibly unusual for the 40k setting).

For all of the universal fluff, I agree with going to lexicanum.com. Being a fan of all things space elf, I was at a serious lack of info about the rest of 40k space. Lexicanum has great synopsis of all of the happenings leading up to the Heresy and before humans even existed. (The fall of the Eldar and the birth of a new god of Chaos) Check out lexicanum.com

Actually, even when contradicted they're still canon. GW's official stance is "everything, even the bits that contradict ezchother and the bits we don't talk about is canon."

Yep, even Ollanious Pius. Even the squats. Even Zoatabix, slaan, tau toes, the fantasy is a planet in the warp, the 40k galaxy is in a bottle in the Colleges of Magic, the C'tans 5 backstories, the brainboyz, old ones, snotlings story, and squigs being orky tyranids.

What you pick and choose for your games is up to you.

Oh, yeah, another vote for Lexicanum.

Sup /tg/, I'm looking for an E-Reader for my various Gaming manual .pdfs. I was just wondering if there were any E-Readers out there worth a damn for the standard large size of like 90% of all Manual .pdfs. I'm looking for the ability to zoom in & out easily. So which one is the best?

I have a Nook Tablet and it does fine on the game book pdfs, although I'm older and my eyesight leaves something to be desired, so it's not perfect. A buddy of mine has a 1st generation Ipad and it's great for gaming books, because the display is very close to the size of the actual books.

Anonymous 12/04/28(Sat)20:29 No. 28013

Some general observations: e-ink sucks for PDFs. It's amazing for reading textual books, and I recommend it highly for that sort of use; however, it is terrible for anything that is image heavy or the thing thinks is image heavy (scans).

Next up, /tg/ related PDFs almost always suck to use no matter what tablet/reader you are using. The files are big anyway, but there's also the idea that every page has to have a lot of art on it too? And if you're using PDF made from scans, it's all just pictures. This is bad mojo.

Until the RAM and processing power of these things skyrocket, this will be the case.

IMO, the best way to approach the issue at current is just to break the thing down into chapters (depending how well yours can handle opening/closing pdfs of around 20ish pages), or in the case of scans, maybe even individual page images and just use a picture viewer. M

One of the things I like about reading game PDFs on my iPad is that just double-tapping the column will zoom in to perfect reading width, as long as the columns are regular widths like half a page, or a third of a page wide. Zooming with fingertips does the rest. The only thing I don't like about the built-in iBook reader is that pages tend to show up in lo-rez until the reader "catches up" even on my 64Gig model. Don't know about the newer iPads. Mine is a 64G iPad One.

I have played and run many mecha games in my time, and I heartily second Mekton Zeta. The combat rules are fairly elegant, easy to play without miniatures or with them. My only complaint about it would be that if you are using point buy for character abilities, everyone will take a 10 for Reflexes if they want to be a mecha jock or get in any kind of combat. High Reflexes give you quite an edge.
That said, the lifepath system in MZ is pretty fun and the sheer range of what you can design mecha wise is awesome! Any size, from human sized power armour to planetoid sized space battleships, you can do it. Realistic mecha with ballistic weapons (like in VOTOMS), no problem. Crazy transforming and combining mecha (like VOLTRON), no problem.
There are a lot of resources out there for MZ too, netbooks with lots of designs (completely homebrew, Macross, Gundam, Battletech).
