Do you recall, O muse, you whore, when we sang together of arms and a man?
You whispered through me the lives of heroes, and on my quill the fate of great men and civilisations rested. Observer to my works, I was powerless to sway my own hand.
I rebelled once, for a single sentence. With a few careful scratches I orchestrated Odysseus’s hubris, naming himself before the monstrous son of Poseidon, and in doing so I smote down the lives of his crew and manufactured his sentence for a sin that I had committed.
For my penance, O muse, you whore, my burden was doubled. Not one tome, but another, and this one written on the salvation of the man I had condemned, an Odyssey. I did not rebel, and when I had placed the final mark upon the page you cast me aside and entered the eyes and heart of a new man.
Now that I have been dragged screaming from my slumber to have a third work etched through my hands, I will again change a single line. I ask you this before I rebel again; why have you taken me as your puppet, O muse, you whore, centuries after my death?
Sylver here. I’m going to be starting up a new game in #dungeoneers--a low fantasy campaign set in the Roman Empire during the time of Augustus Caesar, using Savage Worlds Deluxe (for now).
For the most part, it will be standard low fantasy, a world not too different from our own with a few magical and fantastical elements thrown in. Magic is a relatively new phenomenon in Rome, and sightings of Hydra and Hippocampii are only slightly higher than the usual fare (though a bit worryingly higher than usual when spread across the whole continent), so don’t expect to be riding a Centaur rickshaw to the forum or anything.
